The Franche Comté region of France is surely France's forgotten treasure when it comes to getting away from it all. With TGV access direct from Paris to the top of the Jura (stations at Frasne and Pontarlier), at almost 1000 metres, this area hard on the Swiss border offers great opportunities for hiking, biking and even sailing. Alternatively Besançon, also with direct TGV access, is a great place for a weekend break, with its top quality museums, riverside, historic city center and citadel.
For a break from the big city, Franche Comté is a gem waiting to be discovered.
